@Jorge: Hehe… Finally someone noticed that: the goatee was an insider joke. But with the running, tbh. we tried just walking, but in our tests with real people playing the simulation, everyone was pissed at not being able to get to the next point fast enough, and I reasoned that since this is a simulation, maybe we should let them make the most of their time by allowing them to run around. I do agree though, that teaching people patience in the oilfield, is valuable!

nice game, let me tell you this: the oil worker must not use chin beard, that avoid seal effective of BA on his face. he must not to run while he goes from ESD pumping station to the tree (he could fall, he must straight walk ), congratulations, thanks.

@Anonomous: I tried running the software under win 7 too using different compatibility modes, and it does exit with an error. I’ll have to rebuild it with different settings, as it seems that managed DirectX does NOT support 64 bit. Will do this as soon as I find some time. Thanks for bringing this to my attention

I’m trying to run this under Windows 7 Home 64 bit and when I launch it I get the following error:

System.BadImageFormatException: is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0×800700C1)
at OilSimulator.MainForm.InitializeEngine()
at OilSimulator.MainForm..ctor()
at OilSimulator.Program.Main()

I’ve tried changing the game’s compatibility to XP and Vista and even tried running it as Admin. No joy. As far as I know, .NET is included with Windows 7 so I shouldn’t have to install it separately, right?

@Remco, sorry dude. This was designed for people who know the theory of operating a well. The new software I am writing will have an introductory tutorial, but for now, here are e.g. the steps to open the well :
1. open SSSV (sub-surface safety valve) from the ESD pumping station. (pressurize to 7-8K psi)
2. Open downstream production valve (big valve next to the sampling point)
3. Set the choke value on the christmas tree.
4. Open the manual master valve on the tree (bottom valve)
5. Open the hydraulic master valve on the tree from the ESD station (pump up to 90 Bar)
6. Open the manual wing valve on the tree.
7.Open the hydraulic wing valve on the tree from the ESD (pump up to 80-90 Bar)
8. you will now have flow and the temp/pressure gauges will adjust.
now you can put your BA on, and sample from the sampling point, play around with the valves, or whatever. Try, e.g. opening the bypass valves to the burning pit after lighting it on fire. then closing the production valve. Or take an oil sample at the sampling point.
