I finally managed to put the oil well operator program up for download. I decided to leave out a few features I added, and make an early “lite” version available for download to all of you. The program, as it is, is easy to use (if you know how to operate a well that is ), and I’d love to hear your comments and criticism. The software, is neither the complete version, nor has been upgraded to a new graphics engine in a long time, and the little bit of sound in there is horrible (I am sorry for that, but I really didn’t have access to voice actors/studios). Currently, I have a bigger, better, flashier personal project in the works. I still can’t give you too many details, except that it allows you to simulate an entire surface well-test setup including  a separator, tanks, pumps, BOP, flow-head, piping, ESD, realistic controls, gauges and valves (We even have real-time Barton Charts, etc.) with a nice user Interface, and a complete mathematical two-phase flow/pressure model. It will use one of the best available 3D engines to date, and the graphics and performance have been vastly improved. I will post more details here in the near future.

The main reason why I am putting the old software up for download is to gain insights from you dear readers, on how to design, implement and improve this second project. So all ideas are welcome, both on the Oil Well Operator UL software, and on what to include (and avoid) in the Well test simulation software. I want to use this chance to once again thank my dear friends without whose help this project would not have come to fruition: Mehdi Jeddi, Farid Nosratkhah and Morteza Rezaei.

c) I have checked the software for viruses and malware using Avast Antivirus and   AVG Free Antivirus, and they didn’t report any problems, but please check again with any security software and anti virus software you have installed; better be safe than sorry.

d) Extract the .zip file somewhere and run the “OilWellOperator UL.exe” file. You can use WinZip or WinRAR or any other recent archiving software for this purpose.

e) If the program runs, I hope you enjoy using it, if it doesn’t, probably one or more of the following four things have happened:

1) You might not have a DirectX 9 capable graphic card. Anything above an NVIDIA Geforce X700 with DirectX 9 support will do. If you bought your graphic card more than 5 years ago, you   probably can’t run the program.

2) You might need to upgrade your DirectX version. You can download the latest version on the Microsoft DirectX download page.

3) You might need a .NET library upgrade. This program uses .net version 2 and .net fx. Later upgrades are available from the Microsoft .NET download page.

4) There is some sort of software/hardware incompatibility with the software. There is little help I can offer in the latter case, but if you drop me a line I will try.

I have used the program on Windows Vista, XP and 2000 without any problems. Let me know if you have trouble running it on those operating systems, and I will try to help. As always, comments and suggestions are most welcome.
